What Is Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT)?
This treatment modality was discovered by Dr. Barry Gillespie, which is a unique blend of cranial osteopathic principles and myofascial release techniques.  When physical or emotional traumas adversely tighten this freely moving system, tremendous pressure can be exerted on associated nerves, muscles, organs, blood vessels, lymph vessels, and bones.

The Craniosacral System are the bones of the skull, spine, and pelvis, which is critical to the proper functioning of the central nervous system.  Restrictions and imbalances in the system can cause dysfunction in the brain's ability to pump cerebrospinal fluid through the spinal cord and into the body's fascial system.

Fascial is connective tissue that occurs throughout the entire body in a three-dimensional web from head to toe.  This connective tissue covers muscles, bones, nerves, vessels, and organs down to the cellular level.  The fascial systems function is to support vital organs in their correct position and provide cohesion to all of the body's structures.  The craniosacral system is an important component within the fascial system.

Pediatric Fascial Release can be very beneficial for the newborn who may be having difficulty with breastfeeding, sleeping, reflux, colic, constipation, asymmetrical head shape, and torticollis.  Trauma to the newborn's head during birth may cause the jaw and throat craniosacral fascial strain on the nerves that control the tongue.  Application of CFT to release the strain, can help the newborn or infant to breastfeed normally.

CFT For Breastfeeding Mothers
Anyone who has ever experienced trauma, injury or imbalance, either physical or emotional can benefit from CFT.  This can especially apply to new mothers as the physical and emotional stresses of birth and the postpartum period; can take a tremendous toll on her body.  These experiences may cause inflammation, which accumulates in the fascial system creating restrictions in layers.  These restrictions can bind the fascial creating abnormal pressure on any component of the body such as Breast Fascial Strain around mother's milk lobules and ducts, restricting her flow of milk.  A session of CFT can help to release restrictions in the fascial system and the effects it has on the craniosacral system, thus optimizing the flow of cerebrospinal fluid enabling the mother's lobules and ducts to allow milk flow.  Once the fascial is free and the brain is free to move the cerebrospinal fluid, the body is then able to better heal itself.
